While travelling across Cambodia, we stayed in various types of accommodation from hotels, to beach huts on stilts! Here we list our top 5 places to stay in Cambodia.

Sala Lodges

Top 5 places to stay in Cambodia

“Authentic and sustainable -Sala Lodges is more than a hotel, offering its guests a unique, authentic experience. The eleven traditional wooden houses on stilts in this “idyllic village” situated 8 km from the architectural site of Angkor, contribute to the preservation of an architectural heritage, which is threatened with extinction. By choosing existing Khmer houses to conserve their aged lustre, the founders of Sala Lodges allow you to delve into a genuine Cambodian world.”

By far one of the most luxurious and calming places I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying in. As soon as you step foot inside the grounds you are met with a peaceful and tranquil tropical setting. Immediately the hustle and bustle of busy siem reap street life drops away, and you enter an oasis of calm. Palm tree lined paths and a small babbling brook lead the way to the outdoor salt water infinity pool.

The rooms, or more accurately, wooden house’s, are immaculacy presented along with a large wet room and shower, and a bed big enough to sleep 4! Each night, staff come to turn down your bed and set up the large mosquito net, making sure to spay some eco-friendly mosquito repellent in the room before leaving. We felt thoroughly looked after and attended to in this luxury resort.

Nita by Vo

Top 5 places to stay in Cambodia

We couldn’t have loved this hotel more! From the most incredibly friendly and attentive staff, to the amazing roof top pool with rainbow sunsets! (I think that might have been a lucky one off moment!) The rooms were immaculately presented and very comfortable. The staff even let you choose your own scent for the room by lighting an oil burner with your choice.

We had one of the traditional khemer massages at the hotel, and after a days exploration of the temples this was really needed. It was one of the best massages I have ever had. A cross between thai yoga massage and traditional massage techniques. We left floating out of the spa up to the pool for sunset cocktails – a perfect combination! A really great place to stay. You’ll be well looked after here. Plus the breakfast is delicious and huge!

The One Resort

Koh rong sanloem is one of the smaller Cambodian islands and is becoming more popular with tourists and developers each year. We could see why! From the white sandy beaches and crystal clear blue waters, to the relatively quiet beaches and carved out paths through the jungle to even quieter sunset beaches. This island had it all!

The one resort consists of 10-15 bungalows each with their own bathroom, balcony and air con. The rooms were cleaned, beds made and fresh towels provided every day. The resort has its own beach front swimming pool with day beds for sunbathing on. The staff were really friendly and attentive and enjoyed practicing their English with you whenever they could.

The restaurant had a good mix of traditional khemer and western food, with some of the best cocktails we’ve ever tasted – we only discovered these on the last night which could have been lucky or unlucky depending on how you look at it! I think a lot less things would have happened if we’d discovered them earlier on in our stay there!!

Palm Beach Bungalow Resort

Top 5 places to stay in Cambodia

Our first island accommodation and it certainly did not disappoint. Being the only resort so far on this side of Koh rong, meant that it was really peaceful and quiet. The staff set up a tab for your room so you don’t have to carry money around with you, and the whole place felt very welcoming and family orientated. The beaches had perfect white sand and crystal clear warm waters.

At night there are phosphorescent plankton which light up the water and makes it a really magical experience – the best way to see them is to go out into deeper water with a mask and put your face right in the water – truly beautiful experience. This resort is the place to be if you want a very chilled and relaxed time away from the hustle and bustle of other resorts or people. Plenty of opportunity to have your own private beach space and feel like you are the only people around.

Memoire Siem Reap & Memoire D’Angkor

Top 5 places to stay in Cambodia

These hotels were very nicely decorated and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Both had nice swimming pools and we had a very comfortable stay at both hotels.

Top 5 places to stay in Cambodia

The siem reap hotel is very close to the night markets so very convenient for some late night shopping and the memoir d’angkor is situated a little closer to the temples so convenient for day time tourist site seeing. Both hotels are only a short tuk tuk ride from both the city centre and the temple sites. We would definitely recommend staying here for a convenient city break in siem reap.
