I took Makai here as a surprise birthday present. I’d been looking for some kind of quirky unusual accommodation, preferably with a hot tub, and this perfect little hideaway popped up on this great site called www.hostunusual.com you should really check it out – loads of great suggestions of unusual places to stay in and around the UK. A must for any surprise birthday or gift option.
It was all really easy to book and the owners give you a code for the padlock to open the venue so you don’t even have to see another human on arrival! All very easy and chilled. The venue is really cute and perfect for a romantic getaway for two. There is a dinky hot tub and outdoor fire pit with wood provided. Inside the hideaway the beautifully decorated room has a double bed with a glass roof to star gaze whilst lying in the bed. There is a little sofa seating area and table and chairs for 2 people, which leads to a small but perfectly formed kitchen with all appliances to cook a romantic meal. The owners also left a welcome basket with biscuits, local jams, tea, coffee, and in the fridge was a cold bottle of prosecco – perfect! Beyond that is a little bathroom with shower and toilet.
We had such a lovely stay here and would definitely recommend it to everyone. It really feels like you’re in a little secret garden bubble away from the rest of the world. With quirky features and ornaments, and outdoor solar lamps that come on when the sun sets.
The venue is also very close to Canterbury city centre and the lovely Whitstable bay, both are great site seeing spots to occupy your time in the day.
The owners have other venues and we’re hoping to try out the very popular and often fully booked tree house. Check out their website for more details www.kent-cottage-holidays.co.uk
